SUMMER CAMP COUNSELLORS (5 positions)

On a Seasonal Fixed Term Contract – 7 weeks during July and August 2017
Hours:  30 hours per week Mondays to Fridays
Salary:   $12/hour

Position summary:    

Under the direction of TEAD’s Program Manager and the Summer Camp Co-ordinator, to lead and implement camp activities so as to provide a summer day camp that supports TEAD’s three primary goals – meets and centers on client needs, is of the highest quality and is cost-effective and affordable.

Responsibilities:

Camp Counselors are responsible for helping to plan as well as lead and implement the camp programs and experiences for children in a small group setting, providing high quality and inclusive outdoor/indoor educational and recreational experiences.  They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the camp participants in their camp group.

Qualifications:

  • Works well independently and in a group.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Commitment to TEAD’s client-centered focus and to its goals of the highest quality services to riders and their families in the most cost-effective and sustainable ways possible.
  • Familiarity with challenges faced by children with disabilities.
  • Ability to integrate activities for inclusion of all campers.
  • Patience, dedication and a positive approach to problem solving.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification and Vulnerable Persons’ Criminal Reference Check.

Positions posted are funded in part under the Canada Summer Jobs Program which requires the following criteria to be met:

  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
  • Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
  • Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program, university
  • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant Provincial / Territorial legislation and regulations
